Nikita Mazepin led home a 1-2-3-4 result for his ART team in a thrilling sprint race around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The ART drivers quickly swamped polesitter Joey Mawson to take command of the race, on lap two Callum Ilott, Jake Hughes and Mazepin all battled hard into the Les Combes chicane but it was the Russian who came out on top and make a gap at the front of the field.

Anthoine Hubert has yet again extended his championship lead over the Ferrari-backed Ilott after beating the British driver into second-place, having started in eighth-place the Frenchman clawed his way through the pack and passed Ilott with a superb move at Les Combes with just three laps to go.

Jake Hughes began to suffer from tyre degradation and ended up slipping back from his team-mates as the race wore on with the British driver eventually having to settle for fourth-place behind his ART team-mates.

Brazil's Pedro Piquet crossed the line in fifth-place ahead of Trident team-mate Giuliano Alesi in what was a quiet race for the pair as they were unable to keep up with the pace of the ART's throughout the 13 laps.

MP Motorsport's Richard Verschoor certainly made an impression on his second start in GP3 after picking his way through the field and was able to score two points after finishing in seventh-place.

Trident's third car with Ryan Tveter battled hard after taking some damage to his Dallara GP3/16 after contact with one of his team-mates early on to hold off the late-charging Jenzer of Tatiana Calderon for the final point in either place.

Juan Manuel Correa was tapped by team-mate Calderon on the exit of the first corner on the opening lap and had to follow her as they picked their way through the field.

Feature race winner from Saturday David Beckmann failed to start the race after a problem on the formation lap forced the German into pit-lane and retire.

GP3 will be back in action at Monza on September 1-2.
