Trident driver David Beckmann has taken his maiden GP3 pole position just weeks after switching teams.

The German racer moved from Jenzer to Trident at the last race weekend in Hungary and went on to secure his best ever result with fourth in Saturday's Feature race, and has now taken his first series pole in only his second qualifying session with the Trident team.

Beckmann held an early advantage in the session before he was relegated to second by team-mate Ryan Tveter with just under four minutes of the session remaining. Then ART duo Jake Hughes and Anthoine Hubert went to the front before Beckmann's next lap put him ahead, pipping the championship leader by 0.144s to post a best time of 2:04.335.

Hubert will line up alongside the 18-year-old rookie. Trident's Pedro Piquet was third after his final lap moved him up the qualifying order, with Hughes fourth.

Nikita Mazepin and Callum Ilott completed the third row in fifth and sixth for a Trident/ART top six, meanwhile the two teams also enjoyed a stranglehold on the top ten with only Campos Racing's Simo Laaksonen in seventh and Arden's Joey Mawson in tenth not driving for either.

Tveter and Giuliano Alesi were eighth and ninth respectively, but the latter had a time good enough for a front-row start, but it was later deleted for exceeding track limits.

Tatiana Calderon narrowly missed out on the top ten in 11th ahead of Hubert's title rival Leonardo Pulcini.
