Both Ginetta LMP1’s to skip 6 Hours of Silverstone

Ginetta has confirmed that its two LMP1 cars will not take part in the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship round at Silverstone in a fortnight.

That means TRSM Racing, which runs the two entries, will miss its home event and it will be the second event the team has missed this season after it failed to make the debut round at Spa-Francorchamps due to financial troubles.

However the latest issue isn't related to the team according to Ginetta, but rather the manufacturer's failure to notify the FIA of a planned engine switch from Mechachrome’s 3.4-liter V6 to the AER P60B twin-turbo V6.

Such changes require re-homologation and the FIA prohibits any such changes within a 30-day period prior to each event.

"Ginetta is hugely disappointed by this outcome, as the manufacturer had ensured everything was in place to deliver a competitive car ready for the manufacturer and team’s ‘home’ race," said a statement from Ginetta.

"This included a change of engine in order to provide the additional power that was missing on the G60-LT-P1’s competitive debut at Le Mans.

"A new manufacturer had been sourced, with the Ginetta technical team electing to switch to an AER P60B twin-turbo V6 engine when existing engine supplier, Mecachrome, confirmed they could not make the necessary changes.

"Sadly, despite Ginetta’s best efforts, it now appears that the cars will not race."

It means just eight LMP1 cars will contest the Six Hours of Silverstone on August 19.
