Anthoine Hubert bounced back from a disastrous weekend in Austria to claim his maiden GP3 Series pole position during qualifying for the British round.
Hubert failed to score a single point a week ago at Spielberg and relinquished the lead of the championship to victorious ART Grand Prix team-mate Callum Ilott.
But Hubert struck back across one lap at Silverstone as he recorded a time of 1:46.033, to become the fourth different pole sitter from this year’s four qualifying sessions.
The bonus points available for pole position means Ilott’s six-point advantage has now been reduced to two.
Hubert held an advantage of 0.102s over occasional Force India F1 tester Nikita Mazepin, while practice pacesetter Giuliano Alesi was third, shuffling points leader Ilott down to fourth.
Ryan Tveter and Alessio Lorandi took fifth and sixth respectively for Trident, with MP Motorsport’s Dorian Boccolacci in seventh, in front of ART’s Jake Hughes.
Leonardo Pulcini, third in the points standings, placed ninth, leaving Simo Laaksonen to round out the top 10 for Campos.
