Livio Loi and Avintia part ways after eight races

Belgian rider Livio Loi and the Avintia Moto3 team have parted ways after just eight races together due to a lack of strong results.

Loi joined the new Avintia Academy outfit in the lightweight class following a difficult year with the Leopard team last season.

The former Moto3 race winner has struggled aboard the KTM, however, with only two points finishes to his name with two 15th-place results in Argentina and Barcelona.

With results not meeting the expectations “of both sides”, Loi and Avintia have mutually agreed to part ways ahead of next weekend's German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.

“We tailor made this team for Livio Loi and both parties expected much better results in the first few races of the season,” team boss Raul Romero said.

“Unfortunately those results never came so, together with [management] Zelos we took this difficult decision. I wish Livio the best for the future.”

Managing director of Zelos, Freddy Tacheny, added: “Zelos would like to thank the Reale Avinitia Academy for the collaboration and wishes it all the best for the rest of the season.

“Of course, we will make every possible effort possible to help Livio Loi with the pursuit of his career as a rider.”

Loi lost his ride in 2014 with the Marc VDS team midway through the campaign, and was replaced by current Gresini Moto2 rider Jorge Navarro.

A year after losing his seat at Marc VDS, Loi secured his one and so far only grand prix success at Indianapolis.

The Avintia team will continue to compete in Moto3 this season, but is yet to announce a replacements.
