James Rossiter will join Techeetah Formula E with immediate effect after being named as the independent squad's development driver.

Rossiter, 34, began his professional racing career driving in Formula Renault UK before graduating to Formula 3 while he has carried out a range of development roles for Formula 1 teams including Force India, Super Aguri and Honda.

Most recently, the British driver has competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship while his current 2018 racing programme is made up of both Super Formula and the Super GT Championship for Japanese team TOM'S.

"I'm very excited to join Techeetah as their Development Driver," said Rossiter.

"Formula E is a really exciting space right now and it's no secret that I want to be in the championship. I'm still racing in Super Formula in Japan and so when role surfaced to become the championship leader's Development Driver, it was the perfect solution.

"I will help with the development work and I'll be working closely with the engineering team and the drivers, all [of] whom are close friends, so it will be a great season together."

Rossiter represented Techeetah in Formula E's maiden rookie test earlier this year following the Marrakesh E-Prix where he drove alongside Frédéric Makowiecki, the pair providing the Oxford-based outfit with invaluable data which led to the team leading both the Drivers' and Teams' Championships with only one round of Season Four remaining.

Team principal, Mark Preston, was thrilled to welcome Rossiter to the team and believes that the driver's experience will allow the outfit to develop in Season Five:

"We're extremely happy to welcome James to Techeetah," he said. "He has a wealth of experience from Formula One, Super Formula and really impressed us at the rookie test in Marrakesh earlier this year.

"Having someone with James' experience to help us with our development is invaluable for us. The stakes are getting higher each season and as we grow as a team, we will be adding talent to our roster, and James is the first of these announcements," he added.

Formula E's present season of competition will conclude in North America for the double-header New York City E-Prix on July 14 and 15.
