Consistent 10th place finishes better than lucky results – Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc says consistent tenth-place finishes are more important for Sauber at the moment than surprise one-off sixth places, as it proves the team are making real steps forward.

Leclerc took a surprise sixth at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix scoring eight points for the team, but believes his three-tenth places finishes after that and his ninth in Bahrain are more important for the team as it supports their claim that they're a midfield outfit, particularly given Sauber's recent struggles.

"The consistency is more [important] than only one race where you are a star and then you are going down. It's important to have that consistency and now we have it," said the Monégasque racer.

"We seem to extract the maximum most of the time from the car every race, so that’s great. Potentially in Paul Ricard another point was potentially there without my mistake but it happens sometimes. Overall I think we are doing a great job."

Leclerc currently sits 13th in the standings with the same points tally as Force India's Esteban Ocon and scored Sauber's first back-to-back points since 2015, a feat he repeated just three races later.

Heading to Austria, Leclerc believes the Sauber C37 should suit the Spielberg circuit and is eyeing another top-ten finish to continue his points scoring run.

"I think on paper this track looks like a very positive track for us and this track is one of my favourites, I’ve got very good memories from this track and good results here so hopefully it all goes as expected."
