Marc Marquez: FP4 moment ‘means we are struggling’

Marc Marquez says his spectacular save during MotoGP FP4 proves he is “struggling with front confidence” at the Catalunya circuit.

Marquez lost the front end of his RC213V going through the final corner of the Catalunya track at the end of fourth practice, but spectacularly managed to stay upright using his knee.

The Spaniard went on to qualify second, missing Jorge Lorenzo's pole time by just 0.066 seconds in the end.

However, Marquez admits he is 'struggling against the Ducati riders', and his FP4 moments proves he is having to push to stay in touch.

“The most important is that we are struggling, honestly speaking we are struggling a little bit against Ducati riders, especially Jorge, but we are there.

“So we will see tomorrow if we can fight for the victory.

“Yeah, the show is the most important. Joking aside, was last corner, last lap and I lose the front. I was fighting against everything, fighting against the bike, my knee pushing  a lot.

“Looks like I was able to save, but when I go onto the dirty line, again I lose the front. But this means we are pushing, we are struggling, we are struggling with the front confidence.

“But we were able to save, every time the save is better and better. So we will see where we can arrive, but I hope to be smoother tomorrow and don't repeat it.”

Marquez admitted during the Mugello weekend he knew prior to the event he was going to struggle to fight for the victory.

Despite suffering with a lack of front end confidence at Catalunya, Marquez says he can “feel a little bit better the limit”, which means he can take more risks than he could at Mugello.

“In Mugello I already know before the race I will struggle a lot to manage the front tyre, but here I feel a little bit better the limits.

“So here I can take a little bit of a risk. But you always have to manage, it's a compromise.

“Tomorrow will be a difficult race with warm conditions, tyres are very slippery, higher consumption, and especially Jorge is very fast.

“But why not? We are not far [from the top]. Looks like after FP3 we are far, but all the weekend we were there, very close on the race pace, and if I feel good we can. But we will see.”
