Gasly to start from the back after power unit change

Pierre Gasly will start from the back row of the grid for the Canadian Grand Prix after a second power unit change of the weekend

Prior to the start of qualifying Gasly's updated Honda power unit was removed from the car after he reported a loss of power at the end of the third practice session; the Frenchman subsequently went into qualifying with an old power unit.

Honda took the decision based upon Gasly's grid position, which was a lowly 16th after getting knocked out in Q1, as well as current future allocation plans for their power units.

The Japanese manufacturer brought a newly updated power unit to Montreal with an unconfirmed gain of around 20-30 horsepower.

The reliability record for Honda in 2018 has been far better than in recent years, however, it is still proving shaky with both Toro Rosso's nearly having exceeded their power unit component allocations just seven events into the 21 race calendar.

Team-mate Brendon Hartley keeps his current power unit and will start the race from 12th place on the grid.

Gasly is set to start 19th as Romain Grosjean did not record a lap during qualifying.
