Francesco Bagnaia cruised to his third win of the 2018 Moto2 season to extend his championship lead at Le Mans, with Alex Marquez a distant second.
Bagnaia was given an easy run into the first corner after Lorenzo Baldassarri made a poor launch, while second-place qualifier Xavi Vierge was forced to start from the back after suffering a technical issue prior to pitlane closing.
Marquez managed to jump from sixth on the grid to second on the run into the Dunlop chicane, and stalked Bagnaia for most of the 25-lap race, the pair setting near-identical times lap after lap as Bagnaia's advantage remained at a consistent seven tenths.
Behind, Vierge had worked his way from last to 18th by the end of lap one, and was running inside the points by the third lap in 15th.
The Intact GP rider continued his charge through the field over the next 10 laps to get up to sixth, with Vierge executing an outrageous pass on Romano Fenati for fifth at the Dunlop chicane with eight laps remaining.
At the front, several small errors from Marquez allowed Bagnaia to open up his lead to over a second, which he continued to extend over the final few laps to comfortably secure victory ahead of Marquez.
Joan Mir took the chequered flag in a lonely third for his first Moto2 podium, after the Marc VDS rider got the better of fourth-placed Marcel Schrotter with 11 laps to go.
Vierge fended off a late charge from Ajo KTM rider Miguel Oliveira to salvage fifth, with the latter's sixth moving him up to second in the standings, though 25 points adrift of Bagnaia.
Fenati finished seventh for his first points of his rookie Moto2 campaign, with home hero Fabio Quartararo taking his best result of the year on the Speed Up machine in eigth.
Brad Binder was running inside the top six in the early stages, but was forced to take avoiding action of Baldassarri's stricken Pons bike at the Dunlop chicane when the Italian crashed in front of him on lap eight.
The South African found himself down in ninth as a result, with Stefan Manzi giving Forward Racing its first points of a so far difficult year in 10th.
Along with Baldassarri, Isaac Vinales, Eric Granado, Federico Fuligni and Iker Lecuona also crashed out, while Luca Marini pulled in on the second lap due to ongoing injury problems.
