Mahindra Racing's Nick Heidfeld set the pace in first practice ahead of qualifying for the Berlin E-Prix, topping the timesheets with a late session dash around the historic Flughafen Tempelhof circuit.
In the 45-minute-long session, Heidfeld was the only driver to complete a 200kW lap, topping the running order with a 1m 09.697s lap while Sebastien Buemi was the driver's nearest challenger, 0.474s off the pace.
Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne completed the top three for Techeetah Formula E, 0.653s adrift of Heidfeld while holding a 0.193s advantage over Felix Rosenqvist who was fourth fastest in the second Mahindra, suffering from a late session spin in Turn 1.
Oliver Turvey completed the top five for NIO, setting a best lap time of a 1m 10.588s while Alex Lynn was sixth fastest as the highest placed DS Virgin Racing driver of the session, 0.919s adrift of Heidfeld's session-topping pace.
Reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi was seventh fastest for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler while Mitch Evans was eighth fastest for Jaguar Racing.
Nico Prost was ninth fastest in the second Renault e.dams entry and Daniel Abt completed the top ten for Audi, 1.103s adrift of Heidfeld's 200kW run.
Outside of the top ten, championship hopeful Sam Bird was 11th while Nelson Piquet Jr was 12th.
Formula E returnee Stephane Sarrazin propped up the results from FP1 after causing the only red flag of the session, crashing his MS&AD Andretti car in Turn 1 with 28 minutes remaining in the session, resulting in a 14 minute period of no on-track activity.
