Giuliano Alesi maintained his composure in a heavily interrupted race in wet conditions at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to win yet another GP3 sprint encounter.

The Ferrari Academy driver made a great start from second place to take the lead into Turn 1, whilst trying to make the move on pole-sitter Juan Manuel Correa and David Beckmann, the three all bumped into each other and were lucky to escape with no damage.

In the tricky conditions, the Frenchman managed to keep a cool head with managing three safety car periods, he also had to deal with his compatriot Anthoine Hubert, who continued to challenge him from behind throughout the race.

Hubert started the race down in seventh place after his second place in the feature race, however, he managed to blast past his rivals on the opening lap to claim another second place, which now means he leads the championship.

Jake Hughes stormed through the field from 13th place on the grid to round off the podium behind his ART team-mate.

Correa was unable to match the pace of the leaders after losing the lead on the opening lap but had enough in hand to bring his sole-surviving Jenzer Motorsport car into fourth place.

Dorian Boccolacci matched his feature race result with fifth place for MP Motorsport; team-mate Niko Kari put on a brilliant display in the race to come through the field after starting from the back of the grid to finish in sixth place.

Callum Ilott had to fight hard in the tough conditions and could only manage a seventh-placed finish ahead of the Campos of Simo Laaksonen.

One of the three safety cars was brought out for Pedro Piquet who managed to smash up his Trident on the exit of Turn 9.

Will Palmer tried to start the race on slick tyres but was unable to get heat into them in throughout the race as the track struggled to dry sufficiently for him, on the final restart the conditions suited the Briton and he managed to move up to 13th.
