Lorenzo Baldassarri eased to victory in the Moto2 Spanish Grand Prix ahead of Miguel Oliveira, while Francesco Bagnaia held onto his championship lead after Alex Marquez crashed out.

Last year's Jerez winner Marquez grabbed the advantage off the line to lead into Turn 1, while poleman Baldassarri slipped to third.

Baldassarri regrouped to take second on the second lap, and by lap three took the lead away from Marquez into Dry Sac, with Bagnaia demoting the Spaniard to third briefly.

Behind, Oliveira had carved his way through from 14th on the grid to fifth, and by lap five had moved into the podium places, putting Baldassarri's lead under threat after passing Red Bull KTM Ajo teammate Brad Binder for second on lap five.

Oliveira cut Baldassarri's advantage at the front down to just two tenths of a second, with Marquez in third.

The trio sat line astern for the next handful of laps before Marquez crashed out of podium contention at Turn 2 on lap 11.

At the same, Baldassarri started to ease away from Oliveira, steadily building up his lead to two seconds with seven laps remaining.

Baldassarri remained unchallenged on the run to the chequered flag to take his and the Pons team's first win in the class since 2016, with Oliveira crossing the line a comfortable second.

Bagnaia responded to a brief charge from Xavi Vierge to complete the podium ahead of the Dynavolt Intact GP rider, with Mattia Pasini rounding out the top five.

Binder was a distant sixth on the second Ajo KTM, with the injured Marcel Schrotter pipping Sam Lowes to seventh. The Briton's team-mate Iker Lecuona and Speed Up's Fabio Quartararo completed the top 10.

Joan Mir slipped from sixth on the grid to 11th as he battled the effects of a stomach bug, while Simone Corsi, Tetsuta Nagashima, Hector Barber and Andrea Locatelli took the remaining points.

Jorge Navarro was collected by Luca Marini at Dry Sac on the opening lap, but remounted to finish 17th at his home race. The NTS duo of Joe Roberts and Steven Odendal, Danny Kent, Zulfhami Khairuddin, Stefano Manzi, Romano Fenati, Jules Danilo and Eric Granado also crashed.
