Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans was "gutted" after missing out on what could have been his maiden Formula E win last weekend at the inaugural Rome ePrix.
Evans qualified in third place for Jaguar Racing which marked the team's highest starting position to date, with the British outfit now in its second season of competition.
Evans maintained his podium position throughout the race and following the retirement of Felix Rosenqvist, became a candidate for victory, battling for first position against DS Virgin Racing's Sam Bird and reigning champion Lucas di Grassi.
After pushing too hard in his second stint, the Kiwi depleted all of his usable energy, meaning that he cruised home to finish in a disappointing ninth place, taking only two points away from the weekend instead of silverware.
“Qualifying was good but I’m gutted as we had a chance to win," said Evans.
"Coming away with points for the team is positive but we could have had a lot more which is hard to take.
"I had my eyes on the prize but well done to Sam [Bird]. Hopefully we can be fighting for a podium in Paris.”
James Barclay, Team Director of the Jaguar squad, mirrored Evans' feelings of disappointment, but predicts that the team can take a good result at the Paris ePrix next weekend:
“A real shame about the final result after showing great form over the weekend with our best qualifying position of P3," he said.
"There was a chance of a win or podium but we used too much energy and we had to back off to finish the race. Another really good step forward for us and positive for the team.
"We are racers and will always aim for the top – it just wasn’t meant to be.
"Rome hosted a fantastic Italian Formula E debut and we have good momentum now for Paris in a few days time,” he added.
Missing out on what could have been a large haul of points cost Jaguar dearly, with the outfit dropping down to fifth in the Teams' Championship after previously being locked in a fight for third place with DS Virgin Racing.
