Luca Filippi hoping for ‘good luck’ at home race

NIO Formula E's Luca Filippi is hoping for "good luck" at this weekend's Rome ePrix at the Italian racer aims to put on a good performance for his home crowd in the all-electric championship.

Filippi joined NIO to partner Oliver Turvey for Season Four, replacing inaugural Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr after the Brazilian driver jumped ship to Jaguar Racing.

Filippi's Formula E career started in strong style with a points finish at the opening round of the 2017/18 season in Hong Kong. Despite this, however, the 32-year-old has endured a tough year and has failed to score a single point since his rookie weekend.

"Generally, the home race has always been a good one for me in the past – it's always brought good luck," said Filippi, looking forward to the inaugural race in Rome.

"I'm also very proud because the circuit is fantastic, especially as the fans have given us such a fantastic response.

"Motorsport in Italy has always been huge but not necessarily in Rome, as there haven't been many big races. But, as the capital city, Rome is the home of motorsport.

"This weekend has come at the right time – everyone has been waiting for it," he added.

With one point on the board after six races, Filippi is currently propping up the Drivers' Championship in 20th place while NIO lie in eighth in the Teams' Championship with 33 points through the efforts of Filippi and team-mate Turvey.
