Jean-Eric Vergne to continue ‘one race at a time’ approach in Rome

Jean-Eric Vergne will continue his "one race at a time" mindset this weekend as Formula E heads to Italy for the Rome ePrix, which kicks off the action for the second half of Season Four.

Vergne, 27, has taken two wins so far this season at the Santiago and Punta del Este rounds of the championship, and as such, currently leads the Drivers' Championship with 109 points, 30 clear of Felix Rosenqvist who is his nearest challenger.

Despite having a large advantage at the top of the table, Vergne is continuing the cautious approach that he has taken all season, taking each weekend as it comes until the championship is cemented.

“Taking Formula E to Rome for the first time is something I’m very happy to be part of," said Vergne.

"Italy has a special place in my heart and being part of a championship that brings the spirit of champion gladiators of the past into the future is special.

“For the competing part of the E-Prix, we take this race in the same stride as we do all other races: Intense preparation in the sim and long nights with the engineers, one race at the time.

"We have a meticulous work ethic and everyone’s putting in the hours to give us the best chances of succeeding.

“I want to give a special shout out to the whole team as they are all going above and beyond at the moment and it shows in the results,” he added.

Through the efforts of triple Le Mans winner Andre Lotterer, Techeetah also lead the Teams' Championship from Rosenqvist's Mahindra Racing outfit, despite being the only independent team on the Formula E grid.

“To remain championship leaders as we’ve crossed the half-way mark of the season, as the championship’s only customer team, is nothing but a testament to the hard work from the whole team," said Techeetah Team Principal Mark Preston.

"It’s an astonishing achievement in whichever way the championship turns out in the end.

“We enter Rome leading both the teams’ and drivers’ standings and the goal is to leave Rome with that intact. It’s full focus on continuing our progress and delivering top race results.

“The challenges that lay ahead are not small, but we’ve got a great team and exceptional drivers that are able to fight for race wins together,” he added.

The Rome ePrix marks the start of Formula E's European leg of Season Four, where the all-electric single seater series will head to Paris, Berlin and Zurich before the championship will come to a conclusion in North America for the New York City ePrix in July.
