Jean-Eric Vergne has said he finds Toro Ross's decision to call up Brendon Hartley "amusing" after the New Zealander was previously dumped by Red Bull to make way for Vergne.
in 2010, Hartley who was backed by Red Bull at Tech 1 Racing in the World Series by Renault, was dumped by the energy drinks company mid-way through the season and replaced by Vergne.
Vergne was then promoted to Formula 1 with Toro Rosso in 2012, but he too was dumped after three seasons. Meanwhile Hartley was recently recalled by Red Bull and is now a full-time driver.
Speaking on Thursday, the Frenchman, who now races for Techeetah in Formula E, said the whole situation "made him laugh".
"It makes me laugh that Red Bull called on Hartley, given that he's the one they fired to give me his seat in World Series by Renault," said Vergne. "I find this rather amusing."
Meanwhile the current championship leader says the switch from F1 to FE was a "turning point" following the low of exiting motorsport's top tier.
"Joining Formula E was the most difficult time of my career, when leaving F1," he added. "But with hindsight, I think it was the turning point of my career.
"In any difficult or negative situation, there are positives to draw. You just need to extract them.
"I think I was lucky to join Formula E at the right time and quickly change my mentality and my state of mind. Today, I think it's the best thing that can happen to me."
