Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya has confirmed he will make his Le Mans 24 Hours debut this year with the United Autosports outfit.

The ex-F1 driver, who currently races in IMSA with the Penske Acura squad, will compete in the LMP2 class, driving a Ligier JS P217.

Montoya will join the #32 United Ligier squad, teaming up with Hugo de Sadeleer and Will Owen for June's 86th running of the famous endurance event.

"I’m very excited about the opportunity to experience Le Mans and I’m looking forward to joining United Autosports after they had such a strong finish last year," commented the Colombian.

"I’ve always watched the race, so I’m very happy to finally be part of it. Hopefully we can have a shot at a win."

United chairman Zak Brown, who is also executive director of McLaren with which Montoya claimed three victories during his F1 career, added: "Juan Pablo has been around racing for a long time now and he knows what it takes to win.

"I’m sure he will bring experience and speed to the team, which is exactly what we need for such a demanding race as Le Mans."

Should Montoya win at Le Mans, he would complete motorsport's unofficial 'Triple Crown' by adding a victory at the endurance event to his Monaco Grand Prix win and his Indy 500 victories – although some may claim only an outright LMP1 victory should count.

United has yet to confirm a third driver alongside Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson for its second car.
