Renault e.dams left frustrated following disappointment in Punta del Este

Renault e.dams expressed frustration after Sebastien Buemi and Nico Prost missed out on points in Punta del Este, continuing the squad's indifferent campaign.

Buemi challenged for the podium but made contact with the wall entering Turn 14 and was forced into the pits, bringing forward his mandatory stop, and leaving him out of sync, before later retiring.

Prost, meanwhile, struggled throughout the weekend, crashing out of qualifying prior to a low-key drive to 15th spot.

“It was a bad day for me and I’m feeling very sorry for the team," said Buemi.

"By clipping the wall I ruined our chances of a podium finish. We had a good enough car to achieve such a result as I was in front of Bird who finished third.

"Obviously I’m disappointed, but you can’t rerun the race and now we have to look to the next one. Although it wasn’t perhaps obvious in qualifying I think we were quick enough; that’s the positive aspect I’ll take away with me.”

Prost, who scored points in all bar one race last season, has now taken just a solitary point from the last four races.

“My day was compromised in qualifying. The overall level of the championship is so high that you just have to take risks," said Prost.

"I was on a good lap pushing hard, but I had a slight off and that was that. From that moment on it looked like I was going to have a tricky race. We had a good car that was capable of fighting at the front. I was really hoping for a lot more than this result," he added.

2015/16 champion Buemi holds fourth in the standings, with Prost a lacklustre 17th.

Renault, meanwhile, occupies only fifth in the Teams' championship, with its bid to win a fourth straight title now a long shot.
