Mortara handed 10-place grid penalty for tub change

Venturi Formula E's Edoardo Mortara has received a ten-place grid penalty for the Punta del Este ePrix after being forced to change the monocoque on one of his cars.

The change was a result of an incident for the Swiss driver in shakedown on Friday, where Mortara damaged the floor of his car after aggressively riding a kerb in Turn 15 which saw his Venturi VM200-FE machine get launched into the air, with the damage being done upon landing.

Mortara started his Formula E career strong for Venturi, taking a podium finish in his first every weekend in the all-electric championship although the driver's season has since stagnated, failing to finish inside the points for two weekends in a row at Marrakesh and Santiago before scoring four points in Mexico City two weeks ago.

Due to a calendar clash later on this season, Mortara will miss May's Berlin ePrix to instead compete in the DTM series at Lausitzring for Mercedes while further changes to the driver's 2018 programme could still happen due to the season closing New York ePrix clashing with the Zandvoort round of the DTM.

Venturi is yet to confirm who will replace Mortara in Berlin and potentially at New York although the team fielded development driver Michael Benyahia and Mercedes' Gary Paffett in January's rookie test following the Marrakesh ePrix.
