Oliver Turvey has praised the hard work of NIO Formula E following his maiden podium at the Mexico City ePrix.
Turvey joined NIO at the end of Formula E's inaugural season at the double-header London ePrix and had a best finishing position of sixth place for the squad prior to the Mexico City ePrix, coming close to winning last season's event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez circuit before retiring with a reliability problem.
Despite qualifying in fourth place, the Briton started on the front row of the grid alongside Felix Rosenqvist following grid demotions for Antonio Felix da Costa and Alex Lynn, holding second place for the first part of the race before being gifted the lead after Rosenqvist broke down on lap 14.
In the pit stop phase, Turvey had a slow change into his second car which cost him victory, handing the lead to Audi's Daniel Abt who went on to score his maiden victory in Formula E while Turvey crossed the line in second place.
"I'm absolutely chuffed for everyone in NIO, you know it's, we've been working so hard, and, you know, we've shown we've had some good pace since the start of the season and you know, I felt comfortable in the car, we had a good qualifying, and yeah, drove a good first stint," said Turvey post-race.
"I think was able to get a gap and then actually in the second stint, no, well the pitstop didn't go as smoothly as it could of so we lost a little bit of time there but, you know, the guys did a great job, and um, yeah, the second stint was tough.
"I was defending and, yeah, I was just trying to get to the end and then the last few laps were really tough obviously having Buemi behind and… Yeah, so pleased to cross the line and you know, get the first podium for NIO Formula E team and yeah, really thanks for all the hard work from the team," he added.
Turvey's podium in Mexico City marks the Briton's best result in the all-electric single seater series and NIO's first podium finish since the 2015 Moscow ePrix which was won for the team by Nelson Piquet Jr.
