British racer Jordan King is facing a completely new challenge in 2018. After almost a decade on the European single seater circuit, King made the jump across the Atlantic to share the #20 car with team boss/teammate Ed Carpenter, who only races on ovals.
The Briton is tackling his IndyCar adventure with an open mind. “I’m driving it completely on feel. I don’t have any preconceptions”, said King speaking to IndyCar. “I just get in the car and drive it and tell the engineers what I feel. I’m learning the circuits as well, so we don’t have any preconceptions on the circuits, either”.
While he will miss out on the Indy 500, King’s lack of oval duties also means that he can ease into his new role and build from there, following on the footsteps of teammate Spencer Pigot, who served as Carpenter’s road course companion before landing a full-time ride this season.
“He’s great. He can show me the ropes because he’s gone through exactly what I’m going through”, explained King.
“The whole team has been really good, Ed as well. All the guys behind the scenes, all the engineers have been really good at helping me to get to understand the workings of the car, the tires, the engine, the championship. Just everything involved, everyone has been kind of open and helpful.”
