Schumacher admits Barrichello move ‘too hard’

Michael Schumacher has apologised to Rubens Barrichello after a move on lap 66 of the Hungarian GP saw the seven-time world champion push the Brazilian up against the pit wall.

After the race, Barrichello criticised the German for his ‘crazy’ driving, however Schumacher saw the event differently and blamed the Williams driver for choosing to pass on the right instead of the left.

The FIA shared Barrichello’s thoughts and penalised the Mercedes driver with a 10-place grid drop for the next race in Belgium.

Schumacher though, changed his tune after he had a chance to watch the incident on TV after the race. The 41-year-old described his own move as ‘too hard’.

“Yesterday, right after the race I was still in the heat of the action, but after I watched the incident with Rubens again, I must say that the stewards were right with their assessment: the move against him was too hard,” Schumacher told his website.

“I wanted to make it hard for him to pass me. I clearly showed him that I didn’t want to let him pass but… I wasn’t seeking to endanger him with my move. If he feels I was then I’m sorry, this wasn’t my intention.”
