Dominique Aegerter has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to help with the costs of his 2018 Moto2 campaign with the scaled-down Kiefer Racing team.
Kiefer Racing's future in grand prix racing was plunged into doubt prior to Christmas when a deal to sell the team to ex-racer David Pickworth fell through.
Jochen Kiefer, brother of the late Stefan, who tragically died suddenly during last year's Malaysian Grand Prix weekend, was able to secure enough funding from sponsors to purchase a KTM frame for a one-rider effort.
Former grand prix winner Aegerter was retained by the team, and is now seeking a further 200,000 CHF (210,000 USD) to help pay for testing, spare parts and transport costs, amongst other things.
“Switzerland has an incredible tradition in motorcycle racing and I want, with the help of the Swiss sport fans, to continue this history,” Aegerter stated.
“I am ready to give it my all. The support of my fans means a lot to me and motivates me even more to outgrow myself.”
The crowdfunding scheme was launched today (Wednesday 24) and has already raised 6,104 CHF (6,467.03 USD). The page will remain active for the next 50 days.
Aegerter was set to be joined by 2012 Moto3 world champion Sandro Cortese at the Kiefer squad this year, but the scaling back of the team meant the German was left seeking alternate employment for 2018.
Cortese is currently working to secure a place in the World Supersport Championship with the Kallio Racing outfit.
