McLaren is set to run two cars during the Abu Dhabi post-race tyre test on Tuesday and Wednesday to make up for the development time tyre supplier Pirelli lost when its previous test in Brazil was cancelled.
McLaren and Pirelli had been set for a two-day tyre test in Brazil following the race to aid the Italian supplier's development work for 2018, but it was cancelled amid a spate of security breaches in which several teams were held up at gunpoint outside of the circuit.
Pirelli has put in a request with Charlie Whiting to allow McLaren to run both of its cars, whilst the remaining nine teams will only have a sole car.
However one of their cars will complete 'blind' running as was originally planned for Brazil, meaning it won't receive any data during the test, but Pirelli will share any data it collects amongst all the teams.
It will also give McLaren reserve Lando Norris a chance to complete more mileage, as he had originally been scheduled to drive in Brazil.
The FIA has yet to confirm if it will grant the request, but it wouldn't be the first time Pirelli has run two cars from the same team during a test, as in August at the post-Hungary test, Mercedes ran both of its W08's with one completing regular testing and another 'blind' running.
