Honda hoping to end McLaren partnership on a high

McLaren and Honda's torrid relationship will finally come to an end this weekend as Formula 1 signs off on the 2017 season with the final race in Abu Dhabi.

The three-year partnership has been strained ever since the first season when it became apparent that Honda's power unit was not only unreliable, but slow compared to its rivals.

McLaren finally terminated the deal this year and will switch to Renault for 2018, but Honda's Yusuke Hasegawa insists they will be pushing to end the year and their relationship on a high note.

"With the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we mark the end of a long and challenging 2017 Formula 1 season," commented the Japanese boss. "The weekend is also significant as it is our final race as McLaren Honda.

"Despite this, everyone will be fully focussed on extracting the full potential from our package and continuing the momentum we have built over the last few races.

"I am incredibly proud of how hard everyone in the team has worked this this season. I hope that we can end the year on a high, not just for them, but also for the McLaren Honda fans around the world that have supported us during the last three seasons."

Toro Rosso will be Honda's sole customer team next year.
