Ferrari factory driver Miguel Molina told media that qualifying is less crucial at Spa-Francorchamps, in comparison to Imola due to the increased overtaking opportunities in the race.

Speaking to selected media, including Motorsport Week, before the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Spaniard said: This is one thing from Spa, that the qualifying – it’s always important but will not be crucial, like it was in Imola because ere you have chances to overtake.

“We’ve been working since then [Imola] to analyse a bit everything, all the situations we had. But, for sure, the result was not the expected one.

“I think the Saturday was the best one [out of the two races] until now from Ferrari.

“Home race, 1-2-3 in the qualifying, so that was the highlight of the Imola race.”

Molina is joined in the #50 499P by Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen, is the 499P situated highest out of the three Hypercars in the championship.

They occupy fifth position on 25 points, two points behind the #12 JOTA Porsche 963 crew.

Ferrari expect to continue their strong Imola form into Spa-Francorchamps, primarily since strategy was a prominent factor in deciding the winners of the Italian race, and especially with warmer weather predicted in contrast to last year.

He continued: “We know that our car is suiting quite well when there are high-speed tracks. That’s clear.

“Also last year we showed a good performance here. I think we have to carry on with the same progression that we are doing.

“… we always give the 100% of what we have, and this shows that in Imola – the three Ferraris were really competitive – and here we try to do the same, but probably Spa [and] Le Mans can suite us a bit better with the car because of the high speed corners and with the higher average lap time or speed.”
