Toyota opened its account for the Shanghai round of the World Endurance Championship with the two quickest times during Friday practice.

Brits Mike Conway and Anthony Davidson led the field in the pair of TS050s, while the nearest Porsche 919 driven by Brendon Hartley sat half a second off the pace.

Conway's time of 1:44.741s came during the second of two 90-minute practice sessions, with Davidson slotting behind on a 1:45.131.

The top time in FP1 was also set by Conway, who edged out Nick Tandy's Porsche but went on to improve his time during the afternoon.

Hartley, Timo Bernhard and Earl Bamber can wrap up the drivers' world championship this weekend with a podium, regardless of the result for the Davidson/Sebastien Buemi/Kazuki Nakajima Toyota.

In LMP2, Nelson Piquet Jr lifted Vaillante Rebellion to the top of the charts with a time of 1:52.533s.

The Brazilian ended the day three-tenths up on Thomas Laurent in the points-leading Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA, while Julien Canal finished third in the sister Rebellion that won last time out at Fuji.

Canal and team-mate Bruno Senna are now 10 points off the Jackie Chan crew of Laurent, Oliver Jarvis and Ho-Pin Tung with two rounds remaining.

Fastest in GTE-Pro by six tenths of a second was James Calado in the #51 AF Corse-entered Ferrari, ahead of Richard Leitz's Porsche 911 RSR.

Porsche bounced back with the quickest time in the GTE-Am category, as factory junior Matteo Cairoli topped the timesheets in the Dempsey-Proton Racing entry.

Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Shanghai takes place tomorrow (Saturday, November 4th) at 14:00 local time/06:00 UK time.
