Ross Brawn, the architect of Michael Schumacher's most dominant period in Formula 1, reckons Lewis Hamilton could be the one to beat the title and win tally held by the German.

Schumacher and Hamilton both secured their fourth title at the age of 32, therefore time is certainly on the Briton's side and according to Brawn, given the way Hamilton is driving, he could be the one to challenge the record.

Schumacher's record 91 wins could also fall, sooner rather than later. Hamilton is currently 29 behind, but at the same age, Schumacher had just 53 wins compared to Hamilton's 62.

"I think they are," Brawn told Sky Sports when asked if Schumacher's records were in reach.

"When that happened I couldn't imagine it being beaten, but looking at the way that Lewis is performing [he could]."

Brawn says there's no question about Hamilton's standing amongst F1's greatest drivers now.

"He's one of the greats. He was pretty good before," added Brawn, who worked with Hamilton at Mercedes in his debut season with the team following a switch from McLaren.

"You've got to say he's one of the greats comparable with any of the iconic characters in Formula 1.

"It's not just a fourth title that promotes Lewis to the level of the greatest in our sport, the Schumacher's, Senna's and Fangio's. It's the way he drove this year that really impressed me, especially in recent races.

"He made hard work of it [in Mexico], but apart from that he's been exemplary all year.

"Even when his car was not at 100% he was able to produce some amazing drives, so really, congratulations to him for a superb achievement."
