Sebastian Vettel says a loose screw to blame for extinguisher problem

Sebastian Vettel says a loose screw was to blame for an extinguisher going off in his car during second practice for the Mexican Grand Prix.

The German complained over team radio that something was irritating his bottom, initially describing it as acid over team radio. As he returned to his garage, a visible white wet patch could be seen on his overalls.

It later turned out to be his in-car fire extinguisher which had gone off, causing a very cold sensation.

"It was another Friday which didn't go 100 percent right," said Vettel. "A fire extinguisher burst in the middle of the run.

"Initially it was just burning and then turned out to be very cold. Some screw came loose, then obviously the pressure finds its way out, which wasn't that pleasant for me – a bit of a cool down!

"I think our car is fine, [but] we didn't get a smooth session, with the extinguisher bursting."

Vettel was eventually fourth quickest, 0.250s slower than Daniel Ricciardo who led the session, but complained of traffic problems.

"It was so-so, I was stuck in a lot of traffic," he added. "I think it was the same for everyone, it's a short track and with all the cars on track it's always tricky…. it was OK, but we need to improve."
