Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins are set to test ride a brand-new Yamaha M1 MotoGP bike at the Jerez test next week following the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
It was announced earlier this month that Quartararo had signed a two-year extension with the Japanese marque, putting an end to rumours linking him with Aprilia.
The Frenchman will be rewarded for his loyalties with Yamaha as the factory has worked on several changes to the bike which will be tested in the upcoming test.
“Yamaha will test a new engine, a new chassis, a new swingarm and some aerodynamics on Monday at the test, a new bike,” a team member told Motorsport.com.
Yamaha Test Rider Cal Crutchlow tested some of these parts in a private test last week in Barcelona.
“It was a bad test,” said the same source: “Again the bad weather [it rained several days] played a trick on us.”
Both Quartararo and Rins conducted a testing out at Portimao, but once more the weather restricted their lap count and both were unable to complete more than six laps.
At that test, however, the team only had one power unit available to trial which shows the recent progress the manufacturer has made.
Weather permitting, Yamaha hopes to gauge further understanding of their upgrades in its long-term strategy to get itself back to the upper echelons on the grid.
