Sebastian Vettel insists there is “no need to worry” despite undertaking limited running during second practice for the United States Grand Prix, prompting a chassis change.
Vettel, having spun through the gravel at Turn 19, posted the third-best time on the Ultrasoft runs, but spent the bulk of the session in the garage amid a ‘less than perfect’ feeling with his SF70-H as he prepared for his long runs.
Vettel completed only 11 laps, with Ferrari deciding after the session to change his chassis on precautionary grounds, having received the consent of the FIA to do so.
“It was a complicated afternoon” explained Vettel.
“It not an easy session, but the car is quick, so we don’t need to worry too much about it.
“The only lap I had was the one with the Ultrasofts. Before that, I made a mistake taking too much risk and pushing too early.
“The track was quite slippery and I lost the rear under braking. So, we lost a set of tyres, and then again, towards the end of the session, I felt that something was not right with the car.
“So, we checked a couple of times and now we are looking at the car to see if we can find something.
“I need to find the rhythm and make sure everything’s in order.”
Vettel trails Lewis Hamilton in the standings by 59 points.
