McLaren youngster Lando Norris has clinched the 2017 European Formula 3 championship after taking second place at Hockenheim.
Motopark’s Joel Eriksson snatched the lead from pole sitter Callum Ilott into the hairpin on the opening lap, while Norris and Ilott brushed wheels a few corners later, allowing Ferdinand Habsburg to pass both.
Norris soon overhauled Habsburg to emerge in second and closed down race leader Eriksson, but the Swede held firm to record his third straight win.
Nonetheless, second position was sufficient for Norris to be assured of the title, as he wrapped up proceedings with two races to spare.
Habsburg was third, while Ilott fell away from the podium battle after sliding through the gravel, resisting pressure from Jehan Daruvala.
Nikita Mazepin was sixth, ahead of Pedro Piquet, Ralf Aron and Tadasuke Makino.
Maximilian Gunther, the only driver who could deny Norris the title, rounded out the top 10, having qualified a low-key 12th.
