Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber gave Porsche its third consecutive pole of this year's World Endurance Championship at Fuji Speedway.
The New Zealand-born pair out-qualified Andre Lotterer and Nick Tandy in the sister 919 Hybrid, as the German marque also chalked up its third front-row lockout of the season.
Bamber put the championship-leading car on a good footing with an opening time of 1:35.225s, before Hartley backed up his team-mate's effort with a 1:35.096.
Although Tandy's time of 1:35.068s was the fastest of the 20-minute session, Lotterer's attempt fell short of Hartley by three tenths, giving the #2 Porsche the edge on average.
Lotterer tried to improve his figure in the final stages, but made a mistake exiting the final corner in wet conditions.
Toyota will start its home WEC race from third and fourth, as Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima narrowly missed out on splitting the Porsches in their TS050 Hybrid.
The pair's average of 1:35.355s fell 0.195 seconds short of pole, while the Japanese manufacturer's other car, qualified by Jose Maria Lopez and Kamui Kobayashi, was a distant fourth.
In LMP2, Vaillante Rebellion staged its own front-row lockout, with David Heinemeier Hansson and Nelson Piquet Jr putting their ORECA 07-Gibson on pole for the first time in 2017.
Beche and Heinemeier Hansson combined to form an average of 1:44.196s, which established a cushion of eight tenths to Bruno Senna and Julien Canal in the team's title-chasing car.
Senna and Canal are 20 points behind the championship leading Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA, which qualified third in the hands of Thomas Laurent and Ho-Pin Tung.
GTE-Pro pole went to the Porsche 911 RSR driven by Frederic Makowiecki and Richard Lietz, which came out best in a duel with the Ford GT of Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell.
Tincknell briefly elevated the #66 Ford to the top of the order at the start of the second set of runs, but a quick response from Lietz put the Porsche four tenths ahead on average.
Priaulx tried to improve his score by returning to the wheel late on, but couldn't find the extra pace with rain coming down around the 2.8-mile circuit.
The Olivier Pla/Stefan Mucke Ford will start third tomorrow, ahead of the #71 AF Corse-run Ferrari 488.
Pole in GTE-Am went the way of the Clearwater Racing Ferrari squad for the first time this year.
The 6 Hours of Fuji is scheduled to get underway tomorrow (Sunday, October 15th) at 11:00 local time (03:00 UK).
