Persistent rainfall resulted in limited running during the second practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix, with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton notionally fastest.
Rain began to fall during the closing stages of the morning session at Suzuka, which was led by Sebastian Vettel, and continued to affect the circuit throughout lunchtime.
Officials delayed the start of the second session due to the standing water, with track inspections taking place at 15-minute intervals.
The signal was given to begin proceedings with 45 minutes remaining and a handful of drivers appeared on full Wet tyres to complete an installation lap.
Hamilton was only one of five drivers to record a timed effort, with his lap of 1:48.719s proving to be 0.799s quicker than Esteban Ocon.
Sergio Pérez placed third, with Williams pair Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll the only other drivers to record a lap time, the youngster taking a trip through the gravel at Turn 1 after encountering a patch of standing water.
Just 30 laps in total were completed during the abridged 45 minutes of running, as six drivers – the Red Bull pair, Haas duo, Pierre Gasly and Valtteri Bottas – opted not to leave the pit lane.
