Renault-backed youngster Jack Aitken received his first Formula 1 experience during a private run at the Circuito de Jerez on Wednesday.

Aitken joined Renault’s revived young driver scheme at the start of 2016, upon the manufacturer’s return to Formula 1, and placed fifth in the GP3 championship.

Aitken was retained by Renault for 2017 and placed at the dominant ART squad in the tertiary category, and currently holds second, 43 points behind Mercedes protégé and team-mate George Russell.

Aitken was afforded a day’s worth of running in Renault’s 2012-spec E20 at the Spanish venue, having taken over from Renault’s reserve driver Sergey Sirotkin, who tested on Tuesday.
