Yamaha has confirmed that it will not field a replacement for Valentino Rossi at this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix.
Rossi sustained leg fractures when he suffered an accident during training last Thursday, and underwent successful surgery on Friday, before being released from hospital the next day.
Rossi is expected to miss several events due to the extent of his injuries, ruling him out of the battle for this year’s title.
Yamaha will now head to Misano this weekend with just Maverick Viñales, who remains in the championship hunt, holding third, 13 points behind Andrea Dovizioso.
It will be the first time in seven years that Rossi has not competed at a MotoGP event.
