Former GP2 outfit, Durango, has confirmed it is working with Jacques Villeneuve in a bid to enter Formula One in 2011.
The Italian outfit has previously announced its intention to enter F1 in 2011, however the announcement that Villeneuve is involved in the project was only revealed this week.
It’s thought the 1997 world champion will drive for the team, with future intent to become involved in its management if successful.
Durango owner, Ivone Pinton, told Italian website 422race.com that he hoped the collaboration would prove fruitful in securing the 13th spot on the grid.
“I certainly hope we can find a place together. For Durango, working with him [Villeneuve] is an honour and a privilege,” said the Italian.
The team are also yet to decide on where to base the operation if successful. Rumours have suggested a base in England to build the car, whilst keeping the true home of the team in Italy.
“We do not know where to build the car,” he added. “But the team’s base will be safe in Veneto, Italy.”
