Charles Leclerc dominates Spa feature race to win by 26 seconds

Prema driver Charles Leclerc took his sixth Formula 2 victory of the 2017 season, after controlling the feature race at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Monegasque driver had to fend off Oliver Rowland at the start and the two made light contact at the exit of the first corner, but from there, Leclerc quickly opened up a gap.

He pitted four laps after Rowland, on lap 10, but traffic for his championship rival meant Leclerc soon found himself eight seconds clear.

At some points during the F2 feature race, Leclerc was lapping over one second quicker than anyone else on the circuit, and he ended up having a 26.6 second advantage by the chequered flag.

He crossed the line to take a dominant victory at Spa, extending his lead in the drivers’ championship, with Artem Markelov charging to second.

The Russian Time racer went longer on the medium tyre before switching to softs late on, for a flat-out run to the flag.

He exited the pits in sixth but quickly moved up the order, challenging Rowland on the final lap and attempting to go around the outside at the last corner.

Rowland forced him wide, but Markelov had better traction on fresher tyres and crossed the line just ahead, with the DAMS driver in third.

Luca Ghiotto was fourth after holding off Antonio Fuoco, who also started on the medium tyre. Gustav Malja and his new Racing Engineering team-mate Nyck de Vries were next up.

Sergio Sette Camara and F2 returnee Roberto Merhi were eighth and ninth, while Norman Nato completed the top 10.

Nobuharu Matsushita stalled on the grid and finished down in 18th, while Nicholas Latifi qualified P2 but failed to make the start due to an issue.
