Will Power has secured pole position for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at the Gateway Motorsports Park, with Penske dominating the qualifying session and locking-out the top four positions on the grid.
Each driver completed two qualifying laps around the 1.25-mile oval, with their average speed dictating their overall position in the classification.
Power was the final driver to take to the track during the qualifying session, and comfortably asserted his authority with a 189.642mph average.
The Australian racer will start the race alongside team-mate and championship leader Josef Newgarden, as Penske and Chevrolet once again dominated proceedings over Honda.
Helio Castroneves will occupy the second row of the grid in P3 alongside team-mate and reigning champion Simon Pagenaud, with both drivers momentarily rising up to provisional pole position after their separate qualifying attempts.
Ed Carpenter took full advantage of Chevrolet’s dominance to propel himself to the sharp end of the order, with the team owner set to start the 248-lap race from fifth on the grid.
Reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato was the fastest Honda-powered racer in P6 for Andretti Autosport, with the former Formula 1 racer ultimately unable to repeat his successes from last time out in Pocono.
Scott Dixon was seventh for Chip Ganassi Racing, with the four-time champion unable to challenge the sharp end of the order after a relatively average session.
Carlos Munoz was another benefactor of Chevrolet’s advantage over Honda, with the Columbian racer initially slotting into P4 after his run before falling down the order to eventually settle for P8 on the grid.
Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe rounded out the top ten, with both drivers setting average speeds comfortably within the 183mph bracket.
Rookie Ed Jones failed to capitalise on his impressive practice performance earlier in the day, with the Dubai-born British racer qualifying just outside the top ten in P12.
Further down the order IndyCar veteran Tony Kanaan could only manage P17 for Ganassi, with the Brazilian’s previous knowledge of the Gateway Motorsports Park unable to assist him to a higher grid slot.
Meanwhile Sebastien Bourdais qualified P19 on his return to the series following his major incident during qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, ahead of a disgruntled Marco Andretti who will occupy the last row on the grid with Sebastian Saavedra.
