Corvette set the pace during Friday practice for this weekend's Virginia round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

Antonio Garcia turned in a time of 1:41.323s to head the 60-minute afternoon run and eclipse stable-mate Tommy Milner's morning benchmark by one second.

Driving the #3 Corvette C7.R co-driven with Jan Magnussen, Garcia eclipsed John Edwards in the #24 BMW M6 by eight hundredths of a second.

Having won two races so far, Garcia and Magnussen enter the antepenultimate round of the GTLM category championship with an eight-point advantage over Ford's Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller.

A 1:41.667s effort from Mueller during the afternoon run enabled the #67 Ford to finish third in the timesheets, ahead of Ryan Briscoe in the sister Chip Ganassi Racing-entered car.

Rounding out Friday's top five was Giancarlo Fisichella for the returning Risi Competizione Ferrari squad.

Having not raced the Risi car since its last appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the former Renault grand prix driver posted a time of 1:41.725s.

Milner's morning time was enough to stand 10th of all drivers at the close of play, with the Corvettes benefiting from a slightly larger air restrictor implemented by IMSA's pre-event Balance of Performance ruling.

The GT Daytona category was topped by Change Racing Lamborghini driver Jeroen Mul, who clocked in at 1:43.830s.

Mul's team-mate Corey Lewis backed that effort up with the second-best time of the day.

Qualifying for Sunday's 2 hour 40 minute race – featuring the two GT classes only – is set to take place tomorrow (Saturday, August 26th) at 12:20 EDT.
