Dale Coyne Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais will make his IndyCar return this weekend at Gateway, and will also drive at the final two road course races.
It will be his first time back racing in IndyCar since his huge crash during Indianapolis 500 qualifying, where he suffered pelvic and hip fractures.
Bourdais has recovered faster than expected and this meant he was able to complete a recent test at Mid-Ohio, and was recently given the all-clear to get back to racing.
He was targeting a return for the Sonoma finale, but this has been brought forward to Gateway and he will continue for the last two rounds.
James Davison stepped into Bourdais’ car for the Indy 500, with Tristan Vautier and, more frequently, Esteban Gutierrez replacing the Frenchman in recent races.
“You have no idea how excited I am to be getting back in the car this weekend and for the remainder of the season,” he said.
“It's been a long 14 weeks and I've worked very hard to get to this point. Following the crash, I had one goal in mind and that was to be back for Sonoma, and here I am getting back in the car with three races to go.
“It's a bit unbelievable but I can't wait to try out that new surface at Gateway this weekend.”
