Ricky Taylor gave Wayne Taylor Racing its fourth pole position of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship at the Road America circuit in Wisconsin.

Taylor's time of 1:53.058s behind the wheel of the #10 Cadillac DPi-V.R out-paced the next quickest car by over a second, breaking the four-mile course's qualifying lap record in the process.

After the car set the second best time during free practice with Jordan Taylor at the controls, Ricky Taylor took the reins during qualifying and led the entirety of the 15-minute shootout.

The closest challenge came from Jose Gutierrez in the PR1/Mathisen Motorsports Ligier JSP217-Gibson, who posted a time of 1:54.075s near the end of the run.

The first of two Extreme Speed Motorsports Nissan DPis lapped third quickest through Scott Sharp, while Marc Goossens gave Visit Florida Racing's newly purchased Ligier-Gibson a second row start on the car's IMSA debut.

Rounding out the top five was Johannes van Overbeek in the sister ESM Nissan, ahead of the two Action Express Racing Cadillac DPis.

Action Express drivers Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi are the main title rivals of the points-leading Wayne Taylor team, with the two squads separated by 20 points with three races remaining.

Ford locked out the top two places on the GT Le Mans class grid, with Dirk Mueller pipping team mate Ryan Briscoe to the top spot.

Briscoe led the session early before the pair of BMW M6s of Alexander Sims and Martin Tomczyk surged to the head of the order, but a late response from the pair of Ford GTs handed the manufacturer its first pole since January's Daytona 24 Hours.

Mueller's time of 2:01.422s was seven tenths quicker than Briscoe, who in turn was eight thousandths ahead of Sims.

Former Ferrari driver Gianmaria Bruni took fourth for Porsche in his second qualifying session with his new team, while Tomczyk completed the top five.

The pair of Corvette C7.Rs – including the championship-leading #4 car – struggled for pace with times in the mid 2m 03s.

In GT Daytona, Dutch driver Jeroen Mul chalked up his maiden IMSA pole position for the Change Racing Lamborghini squad, while James French commanded Prototype Challenge.

The 2 hour 40 minute race at Road America takes place tomorrow (Sunday, August 6th) at 14:35 EDT (19:35 UK).
