Alejandro Agag: 2016/2017 Formula E’s ‘take-off season’

Formula E’s founder and CEO Alejandro Agag says the 2016/2017 season has been the “take-off” one for the series.

The third season of the all-electric championship concluded last weekend with a double-header event in Montreal, Canada.

Lucas di Grassi entered the weekend 10 points behind rival Sebastien Buemi, but one victory and a seventh place in the two races was enough to take the title.

Buemi suffered a terrible weekend, climbing from a lowly grid position in race one to P4 before being disqualified. He qualified poorly in race two, recovering to P11.

Prior to the Montreal ePrix, Porsche and Mercedes officially announced entries for future seasons and after last weekend’s racing, Agag thinks this has been Formula E’s breakthrough.

“I think it’s been the take-off season for Formula E with all the attention and all the new entries,” he said after the Montreal weekend.

“I think this last weekend meant we really ended on a high with Lucas coming from behind and winning the drivers’ championship and Renault keeping a very well-deserved teams’ championship.

“I think Sebastien did a fantastic season, but sometimes in racing you get these disastrous weekends and it happened here and that was unfortunate for him.

“But, all in all I think it’s a great result for everyone and for Formula E.”
