ART's Jack Aitken claimed his first win of the 2017 season in Hungary as he dominated Saturday's race onem whilst championship leader George Russell failed to start the race as he broke down on the formation lap.

Russell managed to clear his car before the grid reformed, avoiding an aborted start.

Aitken started from pole position and came under pressure at Turn 1 from ART team-mate Nirei Fukuzumi, but the British racer held the lead and remained unchallenged from there on to claim a lights to flag victory.

A lap one Safety Car was called after Arjun Maini and Tatiana Calderon both came to a halt on the circuit with unspecified failures. As the race resumed, Steijn Schothorst also broke down, prompting a short VSC period.

Anthoine Hubert made a bold move on the outside of Turn 2 to claim third from Dorian Boccolacci, who then slipped to fourth as Alessio Lorandi moved ahead to finish fourth, having passed Niko Kari, Giuliano Alesi and Kevin Joerg in quick succession.

Boccolacci finished fifth ahead of Alesi, Joerg and Ryan Tveter as Kari gradually fell back in the closing laps, eventually coming in ninth, with Bruno Baptista completing the top ten.

Aitken now sits second in the standings, just 11 points adrift of leader Russell.
