Formula 1 boss wants more German manufacturer teams

Formula 1 boss Chase Carey says he is keen to see more German manufacturers involved in the sport, particularly as the country has a rich history in motorsport as well as it's present success in F1.

His comments come as Porsche is considering its future in the World Endurance Championship, with a belief that the supercar maker could switch to F1 as it offers far greater marketing opportunities than the endurance series.

Meanwhile Porsche and sister company Audi were involved in a recent Power Unit Working Group meeting alongside current manufacturers Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari, to discuss the future direction of F1's engine.

Carey would like to see them running teams in F1 and is hopeful that the future rule changes will be enough to attract them.

"Our goal is to have companies like that [Porsche, BMW, Audi] want to run teams in Formula 1," Carey told Germany's Sport Bild newspaper.

"It's why we are adjusting the technical and economic conditions.

"We have a German champion [Nico Rosberg], a German car as champion [Mercedes], a German fighting for the title this year [Sebastian Vettel] and we would like to have more German teams."

Carey also mentioned the country's race as being important to the sport, adding: "The German Grand Prix has a great history and we want to fight for it to continue."
