Daniel Ricciardo to get new power unit for British Grand Prix

Red Bull have elected to fit Daniel Ricciardo's RB13 with a new power unit for the British Grand Prix, after the Australian's retirement from qualifying on Saturday means he will start from the back row of the grid.

Ricciardo had been quickest in qualifying during Q1 before a turbo failure saw him grind to a halt on the circuit, bringing out the red flags and pausing the session.

After a short stoppage, the session resumed and times began to fall as the damp track dried, pushing Ricciardo to the bottom of the time sheets, meaning he would start the race from last place, though he picks up a position thanks to Fernando Alonso's 30-place grid penalty, putting the Australian 19th on the grid.

With such a lowly grid position, Red Bull have opted to fit a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H and MGU-K to Ricciardo's car for the race.

The only one of those components to exceed the allocation of four per season is the MGU-H, which adds an additional ten places to Ricciardo's gearbox penalty from earlier in the weekend. However he remains 19th, thanks to Alonso's much larger penalty.
