DS Virgin Racing driver Alex Lynn has secured pole position for the first of this weekend’s two New York races, on his Formula E debut.

The British racer, replacing Jose Maria Lopez due to clashing FIA World Endurance Championship commitments, easily progressed through to Super Pole.

Practice one pacesetter Lynn then finished Super Pole with the best time after an aggressive lap, putting in a 1:03.296. He finished just 0.238 seconds clear of Daniel Abt.

Jean-Eric Vergne was third fastest in Super Pole for Techeetah, while Lynn’s DS Virgin team-mate Sam Bird had a scruffy run to fourth.

Jerome d’Ambrosio impressed in the qualifying group rounds but he made a mistake early in his Super Pole run, also complaining his car was not in qualifying mode.

Mahindra’s Nick Heidfeld just missed out on a spot in the top five shootout and was sixth, ahead of NextEV NIO’s Nelson Piquet Jr. and Oliver Turvey.

Nicolas Prost was the lead Renault e.dams, while title contender Lucas di Grassi struggled and was 10th, his lap being set after Maro Engel stopped on the circuit.

Stephane Sarrazin was 11th fastest, ahead of Loic Duval, Adam Carroll and Mitch Evans. Tom Dillmann was 15th for Venturi.

Felix Rosenqvist found himself down in 17th after a mistake early in his lap, while Pierre Gasly – replacing Sebastien Buemi, who is racing in the WEC, at e.dams – was 19th.
