Andrea Dovizioso ‘won’t change’ racing approach after taking lead

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso says he “won’t change” his approach to racing after taking the championship lead at the last MotoGP race.

Following on from his back-to-back wins in Mugello and Barcelona, he benefited from rival Maverick Viñales crashing at the Dutch TT to finish fifth and move four points clear.

Valentino Rossi narrowly took victory and closed the gap to the top two in the championship, three points behind Viñales and seven off Dovizioso.

Despite heading to the next round in Germany as the leader in the riders’ standings, Dovizioso said he will not change his approach to racing.

“It gives me great satisfaction to arrive in Germany as leader of the championship,” he explained.

“But it won’t change my way of racing because, even in the past, I’ve never raced for each individual result.

“Always with one eye on the championship: we’ll try and do a good job here in Germany to get the best possible result in Sunday’s race.

“The Sachsenring is a track that has created a few problems for us in the past, but it has just been resurfaced and so it will be new for everyone.

“As always we will have to take account of the behaviour of the tyres, especially in this case seeing as no one has been able to test on the new track surface.”
