Prema's Charles Leclerc extended his Formula 2 title lead as he stormed to pole position around the streets of Baku, preserving his unbeaten qualifying record in 2017.

Leclerc registered a time of 1:52.129 during the closing stages of the session, 0.009s quicker than his own benchmark, to finish over half a second clear of ART’s Nobuharu Matsushita.

Nicholas Latifi was third fastest for DAMS, having recovered from a brush with the wall at Turn 8, which caused the session to be halted while debris was cleared.

Rapax’s Nyck de Vries collected fourth on the grid, ahead of Artem Markelov and Antonio Fuoco, with Johnny Cecotto Jr. seventh.

Sergio Canamasas, Oliver Rowland and Robert Visoiu completed the top 10, while Renault F1 tester Sergey Sirotkin, substituting for the injured Alexander Albon at ART, was a low-key 17th.

Luca Ghiotto was the only driver to encounter major drama when he crashed through Turn 15, causing the session to be halted, leaving the Italian without a lap time.
